DAVID MORTIMER

Originally from the UK: BSc Zoology (Bristol), PhD (Edinburgh). Faculty member, University of Calgary (Canada) 1983-1991; researcher on human sperm pathophysiology. Scientific Director, Sydney IVF (Australia) 1991-1999. ESHRE Basic Semen Analysis Course co-founder.

Has given many invited lectures and taught in workshops and courses worldwide. Author/co-author of >160 publications (h-index = 40), including the books Practical Laboratory Andrology (OUP 1994), Quality and Risk Management in the IVF Laboratory (CUP 2005, 2015), and A Practical Guide to Basic Laboratory Andrology (CUP 2010, 2021).

In 2000 he and his wife Dr Sharon Mortimer established the Vancouver-based reproductive biomedicine consulting company Oozoa Biomedical. Major activities include designing new ART laboratories and cryobanks, performing Total Quality Management based reviews for optimizing lab systems, and product development for the ART field.

He currently serves as Scientific Advisor to Mellowood Medical (Canada), Planer (UK), Hamilton Thorne (USA) as well as several ART centres internationally.
